- Honda Civics that are year 2001 or newer are equipped with an immobilizer system. The keys have a chip inside of them. The chip key must match the engine computer in order to start the car.
- If the car will not start because of this issue there will be a light (showing a picture of a key) that will come on in the dashboard when you crank the engine. This indicates that the car will not start due to not having the proper key.
- In order to solve this issue you can:
- Have the key to the lock you ordered copied by a local locksmith, but ask them to program the chip to match the one in your old key.
- If you do not have the old key a locksmith can connect a small machine to the OBD2 port in the vehicle and program the car to work with the key that came with the lock.
