The Audi B8 A5/S5/RS5 platform is Audi\'s brawny coupe that combines good looks with AWD handling and performance options worthy of some track day fun. The GMP Performance harness bar is designed to incorporate that fun with safety. The integral design feature is that the bar can be quickly and easily removed between track events. The hoop and down bars are attached with interlocking tube clamps. The tube clamps are tig welded to mounting plates that are bolted into the vehicle. The rear carpet cover and rear seat cup holders are trimmed to gain access to the lower portion of the tube clamps. The tube clamp mate is welded to the down bars and hoop. These are bolted together using Grade-8 fasteners. The main hoop of the bar is located at the rear cup holders. The base of the cupholders is opened up and allows the footprint of the bar to rest atop a custom-made footplate that fastens to the chassis at the floorboard. This placement was specifically chosen to give adequete room for even the tallest drivers and is designed to work with racing seats. It can be used with OEM seats but there is no opening for harnesses in the OEM seats. The rear down bars are secured in the trunk just behind the folding rear seat. The bar installs with the seats folded down and when not in use, the seats remain fully operational, with only the foot mounts remaining in place. The goal of this bar was to allow an enthusiast to add safety each track weekend by themselves. The factory seats are removed with four bolts each. Once the seats are removed, the hoop is put into position. The shoulder belts remain attached to the harness bar between runs so there is no need for additional adjustments. With the hoop installed, the rear seats are folded forward and down bars are mounted in place. The interlocking tube clamp hardware is tightened and the harness bar is ready for the track.
