into airline service — the "birth of an airliner" as told by Douglas itself
at the height of the jet age.
Published by the Douglas Aircraft Division, 3855 Lakewood Boulevard, Long
Beach 1, California ("A Division of Douglas Aircraft Company, Inc."),
printed in U.S.A. and dated 2/66 (February 1966) — just months after the
DC-9 entered commercial service with Delta Air Lines in December 1965.
The book opens with a striking full-bleed cover photo of the DC-9 in
flight at sunset, and moves through the aircraft's development story with
period photography and line art. A featured section carries a businessman's
testimonial on how the DC-9 changed his travel life, with a reference to
Donald Douglas Jr., who was president of Douglas Aircraft Company at the
time.
