• why is graphite guide coat better than carbon black guide coat A graphite dry guide coat is generally preferred over a carbon black alternative because it offers superior physical lubrication, safer health profiles, and easier cleanup without sacrificing visibility. While virtually all brands use carbon black formulas to provide a dark contrast, standalone graphite alternatives provide distinct structural and practical benefits. The Key Differences are lubricity & Paper Clogging.Graphite has a naturally layered atomic structure that slides easily, acting as a dry lubricant. This unique slickness allows sandpaper to glide over the panel smoothly, significantly reducing sandpaper loading and clogging. Carbon black is highly disordered, fluffy, and high in surface area; it tends to bunch up, causing abrasives to load up faster.
