Once you're sure the carpet is in the correct position, work your way from the center outward. This is very important. Don't try to install the carpet from front to rear, rear to front, or from side to side. The carpet comes out of the mold a bit long on all sides, and needs to be trimmed as the final step. If you try to install it starting from an untrimmed edge, it's not going to fit your floor pan properly.
Take your time, go slowly and do a good job.
