Long term exposure to the elements tends to cause the plastic on the original pigtail to become brittle and crack/break. Typically, the replacement harness is spliced into the vehicle\'s existing harness by crimping it in place with a butt connector and crimping tool (not included). Please be sure to use sufficient pressure with the crimping tool to ensure tight crimps on the ends of both wires being joined.To verify that the new pigtail harness has been properly attached, use afairamount of force to pull on both sides of the butt connector simultaneously.(USE ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF FORCE AS YOU USE WHEN TYING YOUR SHOELACES).The newly crimped ends shouldnotgive any slackat all. If the wire(s) begin to pull out away from the butt connector, cut the butt connector off and repeat the process with a new butt connector and make sure to impose sufficient force on the new butt connector with the crimping tool.
