Vintage Danforth Constellation Binnacle Marine Compass with Stainless Steel Hood and Wood Base
You are looking at an authentic, Made in USA Danforth Constellation binnacle compass - the legendary 6-inch direct-read compass that was factory equipment on Little Harbor 44, Catalina, and many classic American yachts.
This is the sought-after stainless steel version with removable hinged sun shade hood and solid wood base (teak). Polished chrome finish with black 360-degree card and high-visibility white markings.
CONDITION & FUNCTION:
• Dome: Clear, no cracks. Fluid is clear with NO bubbles, no yellowing - See photo close-up.
• Dial: Original Danforth Constellation markings, N, E, S, W, 0-360 degree increments. Easy to read. The card settles smoothly.
• Binnacle Housing: Polished stainless steel. Shows normal vintage wear - light surface scratches, scuffs, and minor spots from marine use. See photos for detail. Small denting on the housing at the window cutout. Hood hinges operate a little rough with thumb screw. • Base: Solid wood base, approx 6 inch diameter. Shows age, varnish wear, and water marks as expected. Solid, no rot. • Lubber Line: Present and visible. • Gimbal: Moves freely. The light has not been tested and the compass has not been removed to inspect the battery or interior as that may separate the seal.
This is a USED marine instrument. Not tested for deviation/compensation. Sold as a functional vintage compass for display, restoration, or continued marine use. Perfect for yacht restoration, nautical decor, man cave, or active helm.
