EMPI Super Shroud Late 36HP Style, Black is a modern, high-performance cooling shroud engineered for air-cooled Volkswagen Type 1 engines. Designed using advanced CAD modeling, 3D scanning, and real-world airflow testing, this shroud delivers improved cooling efficiency while maintaining the classic 36HP appearance. It is an ideal upgrade for restoration projects, performance builds, and daily drivers requiring reliable temperature control.
Improved Cooling Performance
This shroud features a redesigned internal airflow path that increases cooling efficiency across all cylinders. The velocity stack inlet improves air intake, while the enhanced internal scoop delivers significantly more airflow to the oil cooler. These improvements help maintain stable operating temperatures under demanding conditions.
Balanced Air Distribution
Many factory and aftermarket shrouds direct more air to cylinders 1 and 2, creating uneven head temperatures. The EMPI Super Shroud corrects this imbalance by optimizing internal geometry for consistent airflow across all four cylinders. This contributes to improved engine longevity and more predictable temperature behavior.
Modern Engineering with Classic Styling
Although styled after the traditional 36HP shroud, this late-style doghouse design incorporates updated engineering for better fitment and performance. The lower edge profile improves sealing on OEM and bubble-top cases, and the alternator bolt alignment has been refined for easier installation. The semi-gloss black finish provides a clean, factory-correct appearance.
Compatible with Multiple Fan Sizes
